SILICON VALLEY YOUTH SYMPHONY
SVYS was established in 2008 to train and develop young musicians throughout Silicon Valley, and to provide performance opportunities for youth at all levels of musical experience.SVYS is an organization under SILICON VALLEY PHILHARMONIC and also has a branch chorus, Silicon Valley Youth Chorus. Members are selected through auditions and are placed according to their grade and level of performance: Symphony Orchestra (8th–12th grade), Concert Orchestra (3rd–8th grade), and Joy Chamber Ensemble (1st–4th grade).
Orchestra rehearses on Sunday afternoons, under the baton of Hyun Kim, along with sectionals with professional coaches. Concerts are held at the end of each semester, and there are many performance opportunities such as nursing home visitations, Korean School performances, community events, and various outreach programs.
In addition, SVYS implements music education by creating community service opportunities and awarding our outstanding members by providing opportunities to perform in Honors Concert, hosted by SVYS, and a chance to perform with the orchestra.
